The Dinosaurs

The Triassic Period 248 to 206 million years ago was the beginning of the Mesozoic Era, and it saw the first appearance of dinosaurs.  Dinosaurs such as Coelophysis, Herrerasaurus, and Staurikosaurus were a few of the carnivorous dinosaurs of the age.  Riojasaurus, Plateosaurus, and Technosaurus were some of the early herbivores of the period.

Flora

The plants that flourished during this time were those that adapted to dry climates such as ginkgoes, small seed ferns and palm like cycads.  The largest trees were conifers.  The ginkgo trees formed an open canopy of medium size trees, and the cycads ranged in size from the short forms to the taller palm-like species.  The tree ferns which were quite abundant created a canopy over the forest floor.  And low ferns, thriving in the open areas, formed savannahs which would be considered grasslands of today.
